Does Lepage rely a lot on music?
The idea of "Lepage's boxes" A critic once said "This is the best of Lepage's magical boxes."
How Lepage creates a universe within a tangible border
Are the majority of Lepage's productions created with a very dark lighting? A cosmic or somewhat sinister feel?
Lepage's shadows
are they intentional? What do they symbolize? To what extent do they help deliver his message?
Use of film****
impact it had on audience: It was universal (like all great stories) in that everyone could relate to some extent even if they didn't know about Myles Davis, Juliette Greco, or Jean cocteau. Very strong message of despair, hope, beauty from pain, getting back up, and love. Addiction to affection and power of choice.
what impact do you think the play you probably will do have?
1. What interest do you have in a particular theorists work?
I want to be able to create a harmony between the message and the visuals. Lepage emphasizes that theatre should be like "playing." That a production is an ongoing process that is never "finished" even on opening night. He believes that it is a living thing. (reference to peter brook??) "His focus is on understanding performance as a rehearsal-performance is not a fixed form...it is an ongoing process"
2. What aspect of his or her theory are you interested in?
Mostly Lepage's use of film and music. The ways in which he creates a universe within tangible borders. For example, Lepage uses a literal cube and stages everything within those borders but whatever happens within the cube transcends time. I was also inspired by Lepage's use of a specifically dark and melancholy "outer space" lighting. (shadows as well)
